What does God care about?

A few years ago, I completed a Bible study called "Experiencing God" I learned a lot of things from that study.  The main thing was God's purpose for my life.  Kind of a big deal, right?

Beyond what I thought God was leading me to do. . .  I realized . . .  like totally realized . . . in a kind of . . . . O eM . . .  I am such an idiot kind of way . . . God wants have a relationship with me. . . yeah I know right, kind of dumb.  More than that I learned that what God wants is to further His kingdom.  So the things that I thought were important to God . . . my attendance in church *BUZZER* wrong answer, or my participation in "Christian" organizations *BUZZER* wrong answer!

Did God want my money?  *BUZZER* Nope!

Did God want me to stand up for Christian political issues?  *BUZZER* Nope!

What I learned was that God wanted to use the talents that He gave me to reach people for His kingdom.

I imagine that God could really care less about a lot of the things people get so upset about these days.

What the stars are wearing/saying/doing doesn't mean much to God . . . unless it furthers His kingdom.

What political candidates are promising/not promising/denying/bragging about doesn't mean much to God  . . . unless it furthers His kingdom.

What job you have/don't have/need/want/love/hate doesn't mean much to God . . . unless it furthers His kingdom.

What boy you should text/talk to/flirt with/hang out with/date/marry doesn't mean much to God. . . . unless it furthers His kingdom.

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.  Matthew 6:30-34 (MSG)
So don't stress out about your job.  If you are working for God, it won't matter.  Don't stress out about your phone plan.  Don't rant and rave on facebook about what you believe or what you don't believe unless it is making a difference for God's kingdom.

Being kingdom-minded in today's America is sometimes ridiculed and sometimes difficult, but what else matters?   I'm just sayin!

  1. I love THE MESSAGE way of putting things: "like wild flowers, most of which are never seen". The challenge around here recently is to love the unlovable. Not by power, nor by strength, but by His Spirit. Life in kingdom building is an adventure, like Christmas every day!
