I won't take less

Recently, while riding in the car with Santa I heard this really old country song.

I Won't Take Less Than Your Love - 1988

written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz

performed by  Tanya Tucker with Paul Davis & Paul Overstreet

"How much do I owe you?" said the husband to his wife,
"For standing beside me through the hard years of my life.
"Shall I bring you diamonds, shall I buy you furs?
"Say the word and it's yours.

And his wife said: "I won't take less than your love, sweet love.
"No, I won't take less than your love.
"All the riches of the world could never be enough,
"And I won't take less than your love."

"How much do I owe you?" to the mother said the son.
"For all that you have taught me in the days that I was young.
"Shall I bring expensive blankets to cast upon your bed?
"And a pillow for to rest your weary head."

And the mother said: "I won't take less than your love, sweet love.
"No, I won't take less than your love.
"All the comforts of the world could never be enough,
"And I won't take less than your love."

"How much do I owe you?" said the man to his Lord.
"For giving me this day and every day that's gone before.
"Shall I build a temple, shall I make a sacrifice?
"Tell me Lord and I will pay the price."

And the Lord said: "I won't take less than your love, sweet love.
"No, I won't take less than your love.
"All the treasures of the world could never be enough,
"And I won't take less than your love."

"I won't take less than your love, sweet love.
"No, I won't take less than your love.
"All the treasures of the world could never be enough,
"And I won't take less than your love."

"No, I won't take less than your love."

It reminded me about not only my relationship with my husband and my children but mostly of my relationship with God.  God doesn't want

our money . . . like so many causes would have us believe.

our martyrdom  . . . like so many Christians believe.

our time . . . like so many project leaders believe.

our good deeds . . . like society believes.

No, He won't take less than your love.

God wants us.  He wants to have a relationship with us.

These days between media circus, social media and our society dictating to us how to live.  With all these outside forces getting in our face every minute of the day, I wonder if we ever step back from it all and really express our love to God.

This is what worship is to me. . . that time, whether on Sunday morning, or in my car on the way to work . . . that time where I express to my Jesus how much I love Him.  I can't live without Him and I can't live without praising Him.

I am blown away sometimes at the things that drive people to action.  A facebook app update can cause a riot on social media.  A murder can cause a riot in our society.  A lie can throw the media into overdrive only to find out that they jumped the gun . . .there was no crisis after all it was all a lie.

Yet in order to get someone to praise God pastors have to beg church members, fellow Christians have to plead with friends, and parents have to implore family members to come to church.

It's pretty much out of whack.

This song just reminded me that God won't take less than our love, sweet love.

If you haven't told God how much you love Him lately, you still can . . . He misses you and He loves you.

  3. You're so right, Sandi! Although, I don't always utter praises, my spirit lifts these sentiments up toward heaven each day. I stand in total awe of God for all He does for me and with my very life I owe Him everything. I so love my heavenly Father! Thanks for the reminder and beautiful song to illustrate this message.
