experiencing God

We have been on this study for the past 6 weeks at our church.  I have moved to the college-aged group and Wednesday nights I lead a Bible study for that age.  We are doing a church-wide study called "Experiencing God" by Henry Blackaby (and son).

The most interesting part of this study to me was the realization that God is not concerned with my physical condition and only focuses on my spiritual condition.  Satan, with all his might, can only affect my physical condition . . . because I am saved by grace!

It's not like these are things I didn't know.  But the realization that when I pray God doesn't look at my physical condition but ministers and speaks to my spirit.  Because God's will is to further His kingdom.  I know a lot of people trying to figure out what God's will is for their life.  Many times we struggle with physical concerns . .  . a place to live or as with the college students which career path to choose.  How will I be able to move into my own place?  Or even which church should I attend?

It gave me a lot of peace to know that God was not really all that concerned with my physical needs.  The Holy Spirit came in and assured me that no matter what happens in my life my eternity was secure (and IS secure).

I felt before that when I was praying and asking God for this situation or that physical need He heard, but I felt a little weird asking for those things.  You know?  Not that God wasn't listening to me, but I just felt weird asking.  Now since being in this study I find myself more thankful and thanking God for the physical things instead of wanting more.  I have recently started praying for more and more spiritual things.

Yes, there are a lot of pressures on all of our lives.  No doubt.    I am in no way trying to minimize the struggles you may be facing right now.  But it should help to know that God is right there with you supporting your spirit through the hard times.

If you ARE going through something right now I want to challenge you to look outside your struggles and see if there is someone right in front of you who may be hurting too.  There may be someone going through the same thing you are and just needs a shoulder to cry on, or someone to listen.

Many times when we are facing these things like losing a job or moving to a new city, these physical concerns keep us from sharing God's love with other people.  That is the whole reason why satan tries so hard to mess with our lives, because he knows we will focus on our problems and stop sharing with others.  AND since I don't want him to win, I think we should spread God's love to those around us.

If you have an opportunity to share with someone and you are willing to share you can join the "48 Smiles" birthday hop.  Just click on the button on the side bar to link up your random act of kindness post.

  1. "Experiencing God" is hands down the best study I've ever done. I've done it twice - about five years between - and it was just as revealing the second time as it was the first time. I will be interested to know your thoughts as you go through it. Thank you for sharing today.

Thanks so much for leaving a comment . . .I just love them!!
