I haven't been listening to the news but I have been reading a lot of different blogs and posts and comments on facebook, especially about politics and religion.
For some reason, the "hype" is being turned up on high . . .
oh yeah it's an election year.
One thing our older son Twix always tells our younger kids is, "Are you scared? If you're scared . . . say you're scared!" It cracks me up. He likes to pick on them because they are so much younger than him . . . and because he really does love them. If he didn't love them he wouldn't pick on them.
I have read people who simply have a different OPINION from someone else being rudely criticized and personally attacked . . . just for voicing their OPINION! Things like, "You must be stupid for thinking like that. . . " or " . . . doesn't have a brain cell in their head for believing Obama . . ." or ". . . the idiots in Washington . . ."
You may even have these opinions yourself.
You may think . . . the rich are getting richer, the middle-class are paying for everything, young people are dying, gay people are getting married, women are having abortions, children are being abused and molested, people are losing their jobs and people are losing their homes . . .
and. . . .
it's . . .
all . . .
How is this different from when Reagan was president, or JFK, or anybody? People went through these EXACT same circumstances. How are these problems any different than when FDR was president?
Even in the Bible, there were ALL these problems! (Just because the leader in charge of the nation wasn't named Obama doesn't change the circumstances.) The people wanted Jesus to be their new political leader and save them from the corruption in government, remember? There were homosexuals and all manner of illicit behavior all through the Old and New Testament. So why does it seem worse now?
Well, I say, instead of attacking each other with all this political rant . . . we should just say what is really going on. We are scared. Democrats and Republicans alike. Christians and non-Christians are all scared.
Keep me safe, O God, I've run for dear life to you. I say to God, "Be my Lord!" Without you, nothing makes sense. Psalms 16:1-2 (MSG)
God's a safe-house for the battered, a sanctuary during bad times. The moment you arrive, you relax; you're never sorry you knocked. Psalms 9:9-10 (MSG)
If you are scared . . . God can handle it.
