God is God and I am not

"I am God—yes, I Am. I haven't changed. And because I haven't changed, you, the descendants of Jacob, haven't been destroyed. You have a long history of ignoring my commands. You haven't done a thing I've told you. Return to me so I can return to you," says God-of-the-Angel-Armies.

"You ask, 'But how do we return?' Malachi 3:6-7

How do we return? With the New Year and all, I thought about how to return to God. I didn't leave, but I could be closer to Him. So what do I need to do to return to God?

1. I need more quiet time.
2. I need more obedience to His commands.
3. I need LESS me and MORE of Him.
4. I need to Love other people.

So where does that leave you when you criticize a brother? And where does that leave you whenyou condescend to a sister? I'd say it leaves you looking pretty silly—or worse. Eventually, we're all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God. Your critical and condescending ways aren't going to improve your position there one bit. Read it for yourself in Scripture:

"As I live and breathe,"God says,

"every knee will bow before me;

Every tongue will tell the honest truth

that I and only I am God."

So tend to your knitting. You've got your hands full just taking care of your own life before God. Romans 14:10

We are all in the same boat together. We need to remember that none of us are God, and that one day we will all be on our knees side by side. So all those jokes about . . . If that guy is going to be in heaven I don't want to go. They aren't even close to how it's going to be. We are going to be so awestruck that we are not even going to notice the mook next to us. God is so amazing and fabulous, words cannot describe. I really doubt we will care about golden streets, mansions or our neighbors.

We should take that advice while we are here, and stop worrying about if we are better than the person sitting next to us on the pew, or in line behind us in the grocery store and just love each other, because in the end . . . none of us are great.

So all next week I am going to be discussing Nehemiah's plan to making a New Year's Resolution work. Tune in tomorrow to see how he did it!
