Quiet Time

What is quiet time, right?  I know, I know . . . you are busy.  Babies, feeding, cooking, laundry, cleaning, volunteering, clipping coupons, blogging, oh yeah and more feeding and cooking which leads to more cleaning and laundry . . .it seems endless.  You have way too much on your plate.  If you could just get an extra 15 minutes of sleep maybe you could make it through the day.

Do you have faith that if you give your time to the God of the universe, He will give you some time back?  Come on now . . .really?

Well, this is what happened to me.  Sunday morning I was struggling with my Sunday School class and really wanting to be obedient I asked God to help me with my quiet time. I am just as busy as all of you, with work, bowling, church, g-children, etc.  But I was convicted that my Sunday School lesson would be less of a struggle if I dedicated more time to my "Quiet Time".

After a truly busy Monday, I went to bed about 11:30 p.m. After the TV got turned off, I normally just fall right off to sleep, but not last night.  I stared at the pitch black ceiling for over an hour . . . WIDE AWAKE!!!

I heard God's still small voice, "Didn't you forget something?"

I jumped out of bed.  (Yes, I did, jump out of bed.) "QUIET TIME!" I thought in a scream inside my head.  It would be bad if I screamed it since Santa was sound asleep and snoring. LOL!  I went downstairs to the kitchen and found Skittles doing laundry (yeah, I know the life of a college student, right?).  He was off to bed, though, and I got out my Sunday School lesson and started digging in to it. I got through the whole lesson (with 5 pages of Going Deeper), God nudging me this way and that throughout this whole time.  Reading what He suggested, looking up different things and thinking through some illustrations for my students.  Part of the lesson I actually had to write a brief life history . . . which wasn't so brief, cause I AM OLD people!

Praying for my students and just generally talking to my Lord.  It was amazing how clear all these verses were to me in a quiet house after midnight.   I was still wide awake.  So I sat down and tried to think of something boring to do to make me sleepy.  I played a little word game on my phone, so that might have been 10-15 minutes and then I was tired.  Now, I wasn't scientifically timing this whole thing, but I know I got downstairs around 12:30 a.m. When I got back upstairs to go to bed, it was 1:11 a.m.  I was shocked at how much I was able to get done in such a short amount of time.  Maybe, God gave me back some time.

I read Hannah's post this morning about What Really Matters and it just really fit my whole experience.  If you don't follow Hannah, you should!  She is an amazing young person.  Don't discount her blog because she is young.  1 Timothy 4:12.  ASPIRE  Click on her blog and check it out.  You won't be disappointed, I promise.

I just have to remember to do my quiet time BEFORE midnight!  And God will make sure all the other things in my day get done. . . .He always has before.  I just have to trust Him.

So  . . . . ?  How's YOUR Quiet Time?

  1. Giving God our time everyday is hard to do at times even though I know that the pay for doing it is so rewarding.

  7. Oh my goodness, this was lovely Mrs. C! My quiet time can so often be pushed aside, but what a great reminder to make sure we have it, nevertheless! And in the early morning would be good for me--just have to work on that. Awh! Thanks for the shout-out; made my day!

  8. Hello old friend I'm sorry for not coming by in a while. Quiet time, huh? Well, I guess we all have our quiet times in different ways. I personally have my quiet time when I'm in bed with my eyes clothes, and my Lord, and I speak about the day, and how it could be better tomorrow. His voice soothes me & I'm off to slumberland once I ask for blessings. Nice to talk with you again old friend, hope all has been well for you & yours.
