I was reminded of this while I was in Chicago. When we are traveling I say this a lot. Servers at restaurants want to refill your coffee or drinks and people offer you things that you really don't want. Would you like dessert? Would you like a glass of wine with dinner? Can I get you a beer from the cooler?
"No thanks. I'm good."
I love saying this because my twisted sense of humor finds it funny. In my mind I don't think, "I'm fine." I think, "I'm being good." When I say, "No thanks. I'm good." I literally think of being good, not that I just don't want what they are offering me. It's kind of a twist of the words, but I really like it.
I am a follower of Jesus, and I don't want to do the things that I used to do. These are just little things. Dessert is one for me. I can do without dessert. Alcohol is another one, I am not "anti-drinking" but I am "anti-DRUNK-ing". I can do without it.
Don't get the wrong idea. I LOVE dessert!! Chocolate, coconut pie, cake, chocolate, ice cream. Love, love, love it! I LOVE beer! On a hot summer day, an ice cold beer just hits the spot! I especially like to have a drink when I am on vacation and I want to relax, no responsibilities or schedules or itineraries. I'm just saying that these things have to be in moderation to the rest of my life.
So when I say, "No thanks, I'm good." I am not judging anyone else's actions. I don't mind a bit if you have dessert or have a drink. Go ahead enjoy. I am just talking about myself. I'm not implying that you should be more like me, or that somehow I am better than you, because I am pretty sure I am way worse. . .
I just noticed myself saying this a lot of times this past weekend, and I thought I would share with all of you! Hope you have a great week! Thanks for reading and following.
