Signs

Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs

Blockin' up the scenery, breakin' my mind

Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign

(Originally by Five Man Acoustical Band . . . but I prefer Tesla's version, or at least that's the one stuck in my head.  If you are not familiar with Tesla, they have been around a while and they are not a Christian band, but I do like their music.)

Our preacher was talking about signs Sunday morning, and how sometimes people get stuck "worshiping" the signs instead of the real thing.  He went on to explain that it would be like one of us going to the Restroom sign in the mall or Wal*Mart and doing our business right there at the sign instead of going on in to the bathroom.  Uh . . . pretty crazy, huh?  Worshiping signs is just about as ridiculous.

I know some people who worship saints, angels, the cross, a place where something happened to change their life, a certain outfit they were wearing when something miraculous happened.  Which I am not doubting these signs mean something to them, but doesn't the One true God mean more than that sign?

One of my daughters recently called to ask if I thought something was a sign from God.  Well, of course, I told her I thought that it was a "big" sign but I started thinking about looking for signs.  What happens once we find the sign. . . .just like Bro. Steven said, do we stop right there to do our business?

Or imagine you are on your way to Hollywood, California and all the way there you see signs that point you to Hollywood, do you stop on the side of the road and take pictures by those green highway signs?  No, you keep going until you see the scenery and the walk of fame, and the shops.  The point is you keep going until you get to Hollywood, right?

The signs that we are looking for, point you to the One True God.  The reason we are looking for signs to begin with is because we have a choice to make, or a big decision to make, or . . . the big one, because we want to feel loved by God.  We begin to analyze the things around us, sometimes under a microscope, when really God's love is way bigger than microscopic.  We need to follow the signs that point us to God, because we seek Him. . . not the sign.

"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. John 3:16-18

God loves us so much.  We are His favorites!  YOU are His favorite!  Doesn't that make you excited?  He only wants us to seek Him .. . . read His Word . . . . talk to him . . . LOVE Him!

  1. This is so true and what a good way to describe it (using signs) It's like when people only seek what God can give them instead of just wanting God himself no matter what.
    Blessings to you today! :)
